So I just learned there was once a rooftop racetrack, built on top of the Fiat factory in Lingotto, Italy.

Didn't notice it when I saw the movie a couple years ago. Cool!

It was a test track rather than a race track. The factory was constructed as a spiral, so cars would be progressively assembled as they travelled up through the building, then get to the top and be taken for a test-drive round the track. The banked corners are designed to be taken at 30mph, if I remember rightly, which gives you some idea how tight it all is.

I read the wiki too. Still, 30 mph in 1930's vehicles is pretty quick. Wonder why they felt the need for such aggressive banking? Maybe future-proofing?

No, the banking is for a speed of 30mph through those tight bends. The turn radius is only about fifty feet, which is a sharp turn at 30mph even in a modern car. Older cars just wouldn't have made it round.
